The Albertville is a chunky knit sweater crafted in 100% lightweight wool, with a relaxed fit and classic crew neck. First introduced as the official team sweater for Norway at the 1992 Winter Olympics in the French Alps, it became an icon of early '90s Nordic knitwear — known for its bold colorwork and unmistakable presence. Substantial in feel yet balanced in wear, it stands out through its expressive Norwegian pattern that works equally well as a ski sweater, layered for winter, or worn day to day.

For years, it has been one of the most coveted pieces in vintage knitwear. Collectors have hunted through second-hand shops, vintage archives, and online marketplaces across Europe in search of an original.

True to the original Olympic design, the Albertville is reintroduced with a finely detailed neckband and carefully considered yarn colors. The undyed Birch Mel./Coffee colorway highlights the fiber's natural tonal variation, while the dyed colorways create crisp contrast. As one of Dale of Norway's signature sweaters, the Albertville carries forward one of the defining designs in Norwegian knitwear.

This sweater is knitted using different yarn compositions depending on the colorway:

  • Birch Mel. and Coffee:  100% undyed lightweight wool from Uruguay.
  • Off White and Blue Shadow:  100% lightweight wool from South America (dyed).

Birch Mel./Coffee colorway (M00):

Nature Undyed – undyed lightweight wool:  Our undyed lightweight wool is sourced from Uruguay and showcases the natural color variations of the fiber, ranging from darker to brighter tones. These different shades are sorted and blended into mélanges, creating a limited range of natural colors. Since there is no dyeing process involved, the yarn remains 100% natural and biodegradable. The absence of dyeing eliminates the need for the chemicals typically used in this process, while also conserving resources like water and energy. (Fiber diameter: 27 micron).  Hand wash only.

Albertville is located in the French Alps, close to the Italian border. The mountain town has a strong connection to alpine skiing and winter sports heritage. The 1992 Games – for which this sweater was designed – marked the first time the Olympic and Paralympic events were hosted in the same location.
